Competitions and markets
The NBA provides the volume: 1,230 regular season games plus play-in and playoffs, each with a full line including player points, rebounds, assists and three-pointers. EuroLeague and EuroCup follow with team and quarter markets. The Basketball Africa League matters in the region because clubs from Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania compete in it, and its games get a fuller line than most other African sport. FIBA World Cup and AfroBasket qualifiers, the Spanish ACB, the Turkish BSL, the Australian NBL and the Chinese CBA fill the rest of the calendar.
- Money line: straight winner including overtime.
- Point spread: the favourite gives points, the underdog receives them.
- Total points: over or under a line for the game, each half and each quarter.
- Team totals and winning margin bands.
- Player markets: points, rebounds, assists, threes, double-doubles.
- Race to 20 points and first basket in live play.
Reading spreads and totals
A spread of -6.5 means the favourite must win by seven or more. Spreads are set so that each side is close to a coin flip after the margin, so the question is not who wins but by how much. Totals react to pace and rest more than to star power; a team on the second night of a back-to-back scores less in the fourth quarter, and two slow, defensive sides push the under. Injury news lands late in the NBA, often an hour before tip-off, so the best pre-match prices appear right after the line opens and right after a confirmed scratch.
Live basketball
Live lines in basketball move faster than in any other mainstream sport, which creates opportunities and traps in equal measure. The live total overreacts to a hot shooting quarter; the live spread overreacts to a double-digit run by the trailing team. Backing the pre-match favourite after it falls eight to ten points behind early is a well-known approach, because teams with better rotations tend to close gaps over 48 minutes. Cash out is available throughout, and the match tracker shows score by quarter, fouls and timeouts.
- Decide whether you are betting the team or the pace before tip-off.
- Wait for the first quarter before taking a live total.
- Do not chase a spread that moved against you; the next game has a fresh line.
Basketball in accumulators
Spreads and totals price close to even money, which makes basketball a handy building block for the accumulator boost: three or four legs at around 1.90 reach the threshold without the long odds of a football correct score. Bet types are on the sportsbook guide; in-play tactics on the live betting page.

Common questions
Does overtime count?
Yes, for money line, spread and total markets unless the market name says otherwise. Quarter markets settle on the quarter only.
What if a player market is on a player who does not play?
Player markets are voided if the player does not take part in the game.
Is the Basketball Africa League available live?
BAL games are traded in play with a tracker.
How late are NBA line-ups confirmed?
Usually 30 to 90 minutes before tip-off. Prices move sharply after a star is ruled out.
